We Should Be Dead - Forget Romance, Lets Dance

We should be excited... Forget Romance, Lets Dance is the soon to be released début single from Limerick band We Should Be Dead. Released later this month through indie label POP 4 POP, the single captures the essence of a band with nothing held back. For all the 60s girl fronted pop-rock bands who romanced on the leather and motorcycle stubble of the leader of the pack, We Should Be Dead take the romance and turn it upside down, infuse over it with Ramones style punk hooks, and give you a reason to forget and enjoy the moment in equal measure.

So it's poptastic and hooktastic and punktastic, and if you've any semblance of fun in you, of the passion and desire of bubblegum pop-punk, you'll be reaching to get a piece of We Should Be Dead here and now. The single is streamable from their space along with an equally impressive b-side in What Brings You Down which can be pre-ordered from 7Digital Indie Store. To ensure that WSBD get into your every crevice of conscience, and unconscience for that matter, band ringtones are also soon due to be made available for download to your phone. The official launch date for the single is November 30th, and with an album release now set for early February next year, the future is suddenly looking very promising for those from We Should Be Dead, and the resurrected sounds and spirit of a lost generation. 10.

Revolution For Dogs - Shadow On The City

Following on from their début Let Yourself Go EP earlier this year, Revolution For Dogs released Shadow On The City this November as their second offering. Hard hitting infectious rock rhythms with a nod towards the leading lights of the Scandinavian hard rock wave of the late 90s, The Hellacopters and Gluecifier, for those longer in the tooth, the single may provide a stirring flash back to the sounds of everything from Judas Priest to Deep Purple.

Released on their own Revolution Records, Shadow On The City riffs out a rock n'roll unashamedly reaching for the stadiums. The b-side, Blondie, perhaps veers closer to Saxon territory with a laid back melodic breeze some may cringe and prefer to forget, though for all their variety, surely forgiven for the indulgence. Also streamable on their space currently is indie-rock veering Vampyre of the Soul and the more propulsive garage rock of Let Yourself Go from their earlier EP, which is available for download. Shadow On The City was released on 5th November, while all tracks are due to be included on a début album next year, Music Is Medicine. Among those who appreciate roots rock n'roll bearing influences spanning garage through to stadium hard rock, the album is surely to be well received.

It's A Long Way From That Sort Of Thing You Were Raised...

Warm indie-rock awash with the summer harmonies of late 60s pop culture, the début album from My Brother Woody is proving to be quite a pleasant indulgence since arriving through the Frequency-Ireland postbox last week.
Described before as The Beach Boys meets Teenage Fanclub, the material is buoyantly harmonic, yet more often than not remains delicate in delivery.

The work of the new Irish outfit based around the song-writing skills of Michael Cleare, the album opens in an elegant and delectably frail manner with Another Wave of Harmony before leading into the confident and uplifting brass sounds of Wish I Was A DJ, injecting quite a jazz-pop lift to that Beach Boys summer vibe. Third track, Hanging Around perhaps sounds a touch too close to the mainstream rock of the 80s ala Brian Adams territory, as if custom tailored for major station radio play, but elsewhere the album is nicely poised between dippy and melancholic moods, and is quite a triumph of indie-pop. Choice tracks on the album come later, including the dizzy chemistry in Super Serotonin Girl and the more delicate and melancholia entrenched moods of When Summer Comes Around and Not Exactly What You Dreamed Of. As an album which closes with a song titled I Only Like Songs With Bops Oohs & Aahs, its hard to know for sure where the irony ends and the rebuff begins, but regardless of which way you want to look at it, this is an album of genuine merit none the less. 8/10.

Frequency-Ireland Events...

A quick word to say thanks to those who came along to the Halloween Charity Fundraiser with The Things last weekend at Baker's Underground, which raised EUR 342.00 for the local branch of The Samaritans here in Limerick. Dave Barry, the much respected ex-teacher of the Limerick area, who handles all incoming fundraisers at the local branch of The Samaritans, was very grateful of both the funds and the awareness raised of all the great work they do in the area.

I'm currently putting together plans for a return to Daffy's International Bar to put on a singer-songwriter night in mid-December as a Christmas Charity Event, most likely in aid of the Mid West Simon Community for the homeless. Though no dates or plans have yet been set, the intention would be to have quite a casual affair of five or six artists, and a small door surcharge, with all proceeds going to the charity. For those who would like to participate and play a 30 or so minute set as part of this please feel free to get in touch.
